Paris Theme Invitations

Came across this Parisian inspired invitation today by PerfectPostage. I love the blend of colors in the design and the fact that you can just customize it on-screen and purchase!

PLEASE NOTE: I played with the customizing settings a bit to make sure it worked, and here's what I noticed. When I entered my name where it reads "Text 1" I realized there are two layers to the names on the cover, a black and red layer. "Text 1" pertains to the black layer, so make sure you enter the exact same text where it reads "Text 3" so that both layers match and say exactly the same thing, creating a sligh. Then proceed to customize the rest.

These would make great invitations for weddings, bridal showers, engagement parties, or sweet 16 parties.

Oh! One more thing! Do not be intimidated by the yellow notice that reads "MEDIA is temporarily out of stock".

This just means that the stock that the designer selected is out at the time being, but you can just click where it says "2. Choose your style, size and paper type" and you'll be able to select other fabulous card stocks such as metallic ice or recycled stock.

Holiday Doodles

I've been spreading a little holiday cheer around the office with my doodles, thanks to my current addiction to glitter pens. Yup. That's why I haven't been blogging much lately, I'm busy glittering up a doddle of a storm for my coworkers! Well, kind of, but not really. I have been very busy though, and I have a feeling things are going to stay this way for a while which means it's time to narrow down my focus so that I don't spread myself out too thin. As a result, I will most likely end up deleting this blog, but you can always stop by and visit me at the Paisley In Paris Blog. There's a lot more happening over there, so when you have a chance, grab a cup of coffee, or tea, or any other beverage you prefer and make yourself at home. It's no secret that I love anything with birds, so on today's post I'd like to feature Lovebird Save the Dates by some of my favorite zazzle designers.

I love the sophistication of this above aqua and brown save the date card by FidesDesign. It has a classic timeless feel, with a modern font that makes the design fit with the actual trends.

A Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera Halloween

This year, the entire family got into the Halloween spirit and we celebrated together with a costume party. My husband and I dressed up as Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two very famous Mexican artists from the early 1900's.

Frida's artwork is a little too dark for my taste. It expresses a lot of tragedy, as well as emotional and physical pain that she endured throughout her lifetime. But after watching "Frida," a 2002 film starring Salma Hayek (as Frida) and Alfred Molina (as her husband, Diego Rivera), I learned to appreciate her work and talent.

Below is the image of Frida and Diego we tried to recreate:
From left to right, you'll see Alfred Molina and Salma Hayek, a painting of Diego and Frida in the center, and then my husband and I to the far right.

Being the crafty person that I am, instead of buying a painter's palette that I'd probably never use again, I created the one below out of chipboard.

I cut out pictures of Frida and Diego to represent the paint on the palette, which also served as a tool to explain to people who we were dressed as, in case they were not familiar with our characters. As an added touch, I taped two used brushes on the back for easy handling, so we weren't dropping our photo props all over the place.

The party was lots of fun, and hubby and I were very proud of our homemade costumes. We only spent $9 total, which went towards his clothes that we purchased at Goodwill.

Robot Thank You Cards

September has been pretty busy with most of my days spent working a full-time temp job, then coming home to continue working in the studio every evening. I know I said I wouldn't be accepting any new wedding projects, but I did. Mainly because it was a referral and the wedding is not until November of next year, so I figured it wouldn't be so stressful to work on this project with this much advance notice.
I also have to start working on my sister's wedding invitations in the next couple of weeks, and as soon as I do, I won't be accepting any work from referrals either. I don't want to put too much on my plate to keep the stress levels under control until I complete my term at work, which is expected to end in the first week of January. I really enjoy the job though. I get out every day, make steady income and I get to see and meet different people every day. Working from home has it perks, but the biggest downfall is that it can get pretty lonely, and chores tend to interfere with work while work interferes with chores. But that's a whole new other subject I don't want to touch right now.

On another note, I felt a bit creative over the weekend and I added a girl version to my Robot Birthday Party collection over at PaisleyInParis.com. They turned out so cute! I finished the set with a Robot Wedding Thank You Card, just for fun. I'll most likely carry over the robot theme to the wedding side of the shop and create the save the dates and wedding invitations too. I'm sure the techie couples out there will appreciate it.

Baptism Invitations

As I mentioned in my previous post, I recently accepted a full-time temp job that I'm thoroughly enjoying during the day. Then, I come home and I continue adding to my stationery shop over at PaisleyInParis.com and I work on other minor custom projects that may come up, such these baptism invitations for my coworker's grandson.
I know the image quality is not as good as I'd like it to be, but it's the best I could do with the lighting in my studio at this hour (9pm) with my phone's camera. I just wanted to share what I worked on this evening; I printed, cut, assembled, and glittered 20 of these babies for an early delivery tomorrow morning.
I printed the invitations on solar white card stock and attached them to a silver metallic stock, then I glittered the cross above for a little more sparkle.
I'm also working on completing a Robot themed birthday party set for a client in Florida. You can see the invitations here. I'll be posting thank you cards, cupcake toppers, chocolate bar wrappers and a matching birthday banner soon. So much inspiration, so little time, and so grateful for the work the Lord sends my way.

Studio Updates, Work and Paper Cranes

I recently accepted a temporary full-time job through the end of December. Aside from that I am working on completing custom stationery for 2 weddings that I booked this summer, I am finalizing a corporate order of 4,000 (yes four thousand) invitations for a holiday party, I'm responding to daily inquiries for items selling in my stationery shop, and I have first grader that needs help with homework each night. Unfortunately that leaves very little time continue updating the blog several times as week as I was doing, but I will try my best to do so at least once a week so don't forget to stop by occasionally to see what I've been up to!
Hope you all a great Labor Day weekend. I had a great time with my sister and the rest of her bridesmaids who also happen to be our cousins.
We got together today to help her make cranes for her wedding decor. Above is a picture of my first crane on origami paper. Her wedding is going to be amazing. They are doing such a good job blending both cultures (Mexican and Japanese) and they're both very crafty so it's gonna be a DYI wedding, with lots of style. Can't wait!

Handcrafted Wedding Bouquet

I received this picture from my sister today, it's her wedding bouquet! Sure, natural flower bouquets are beautiful and smell great, but when you're a crafty girl like my sister is, and you're trying to keep the wedding costs down so you can splurge on the honeymoon, then this is the perfect solution to the bouquet search. One more thing she can check off the list.

So how much did she spend? I think she had the fabric and beads already...she gets of a kick out of sharing her cost-saving tips, so I'm sure she'll share. Check back soon if you're interested in finding out the grand total.

I've been wanted to host a mother's day tea party for a couple of years now, and for one reason or another I just haven't. I started browsing looking to buy a few sets of vintage tea cups, however right in the middle of my search I came across this "Enchanted" collection. What can I say? The vibrant colors and contrast have me...well, "enchanted". Oh, what would this world be without color? I dare not imagine. On another note, apparently this tea set has a bit of history. It was chosen by Country Living Magazine to help decorate their House of the Year.

"How do I become a stationery designer?"

Every now and then I get a few e-mails from people letting me know how much they love my work. I love that! It really keeps me going, it's a huge motivator for any designer to know that their work is admired and appreciated. Today I woke up to a different kind of e-mail. It was a fan asking for advice on how to become a stationery designer...

"Hi Dio, I love your work and your personal story! (I read the interview that Soy Fashionista did with you, which led me to your sites.) I really want to become a stationery designer (weddings in particular) but I'm at a bit of a loss for how things work, and I'd like to know more about the technical side. Could you share a little with me about the technical process of it all? (I know the first order of business should be for me to take more graphic design courses, but first I'd like to know how it all fits together with stationery design in particular.) Like, what software & equipment do you use, do I have to be able to freehand draw all designs or do you use some stock images too in your work, do you use a digital pen and tablet with illustrator to create your drawings, do you outsource printing or do you do your own printing, etc.? It's really hard to find any information on this and I would so appreciate any advice you could offer someone who aspires to have a career like yours!

Experience & Education
The truth is, every stationery designer has a different story. I bet there are many out there that started their career as a hobby, having never worked in a design setting. I shared a bit of my story in that interview for Soy Fashionista nearly a year ago. For me, leaving the corporate world to own my business was a natural process. By then I had already established myself a designer. I was Senior Designer for a marketing office where I had gained much experience taking a vision and putting it on paper for the weekly/monthly promotions that our company ran. I also knew how to use the software and most important of all, I knew how to communicate with the print shops. I spoke their lingo and understood terms like "press check, full color printing, spot color printing, cost per ink wash, film plates, die cut, scoring, drilling, camera ready, vector image, gloss coating, varnish, PMS colors, etc." I knew what they meant when they asked "how many originals in your print job?" That's the technical stuff that I can't sit here and explain. It's what you will gain with your education and work experience, and it very much applies to wedding stationery. When a client requests an estimate, I have to determine the best type of printing for their budget (offset or digital) and then go from there. If it's offset they need, then I usually have to quote for spot printing & the communication with the printer begins according to the client's needs. I do some in-house digital printing with a high quality laser printer I purchased, but it's limited to the type of stocks I can print on.

Vendors & Materials
The hardest part for me was finding printers and wholesale vendors. I couldn't find affordable printing in town, so I had to shop around in the LA area and online, there's so much variety out there. My advice is for you to shop around too, it's part of the process.
As far as card stocks and materials, Envelopments has been such a blessing for me! They are organized, they have great customer service and provide all their resellers with all the tools they need to be successful.

Software & Equipment
Everywhere I worked before starting my own business was PC based, so naturally I too am a PC based designer. I'd like to own a Mac one day, but it's not something I see in my near future simply because I'm very comfortable with what I have at this point and I don't need the extra expense.
I use the Adobe Creative Suite, I haven't upgraded since CS2. I feel there is no need, what I have works fine without the upgrades. Most of my work is created in Illustrator. I used Corel Draw many years ago when I first started and I love it! It's more affordable than Illustrator and you can do the same thing with it. I don't own a copy of it, but I loved it back when my employer had it available for me to use. I only use InDesign when addressing envelopes with computer calligraphy, or basically any time I'm designing anything that has a heavy text content. PhotoShop is a must have for working on images you want to publish on your website and blogs.
I have always wanted to invest in a digital pen and tablet, but I just haven't. Nothing is really stopping me at this time except the fact that I feel I have to do some research about all the options available and I've just been too busy to give it much importance.

Original Work vs. Stock Images
I feel it is acceptable to use clipart or stock images when working on ads or marketing collateral, but it's not always suitable for wedding stationery. When a bride comes to you looking for an original design, it just won't be very original if you plop some clipart onto a layout, you know what I mean? You'll also be wrong in saying "it's my original design" when in fact all you did is incorporate someone else's artwork into your layout.
One very important piece of advice is to please be original! Define yourself, find your style, seek inspiration but NEVER copy anybody else's work, even if a client asks you to.

In Summary
It's A LOT of work!!! You have to do all the legal stuff first like registering your business name, getting your resale license, finding vendors. Then when the business is running, you have to do your own bookkeeping or hire someone who will. Owning a custom stationery business is not just about the creative stuff, you also have to figure out how you'll be pricing your goods and services, do consultations, answer e-mail requests, phone calls, produce quotes, coordinate a variety of projects and deadlines, determine whether or not you'll process credit cards, do your own purchasing, shipping, receiving, keep track of inventory, and do lots and lots of research every day and find creative ways to market yourself. Never start any job without a contract and be prepared to revise such contract constantly during the first year, or each time a client gives you a headache (hey, it happens). You will eventually settle into a written agreement that is nearly perfect for your everyday use.

I watched Letters to Juliet with my daughter earlier in the week and it rekindled my love for a country I haven't been to yet. Not in this lifetime anyway. Oh, my Italy. I love everything about you...the food, the scenery, the language. I understand it rather well, which is why I enjoy watching movies and shows where the language is spoken, even if it's just a few words here and there. It could be that it's very similar to Spanish (my first language), or it could be that I remember more than I think I do from the one year of Italian that I took in high school and a second year in college. Regardless, I really really enjoyed the movie even though it was a little slow for my daughter, but she didn't mind. She enjoyed playing with my phone while I sighed and gasped at the photography in the film, as it strengthened the promise I made myself long ago. Mi bella Italia, I shall be with you one day.

The bright colors and angle of the photo really caught my attention. Footsie Friday: Furry Slippers

Had I seen these slippers 7 years ago when I got married, I would have probably worn them on the dance floor under my wedding dress for a punch of color and lots of laughs! They look so warm and cumfy and, listen to this, they were knitted by a trucker. Yup, a trucker, that's not something you see every day, truckers knitting. Well, I haven't actually seen him knitting, but that's what his Etsy shop is called, Tom the Trucker and Etsy sellers don't lie, do they? I chose to believe they don't. =)
I know the weather's pretty warm right now, but if you beat me to them (I really am thinking about purchasing them) make sure you wear them to the office for Casual Friday. Your boss will love them, no? Hee, hee.

Pretty Little Hair Pins

Thinking about letting my hair grow out a bit for my sister's wedding next year. I've had the same cut for the last 3 years, it may be time for a change, but it's so hard because I love my short hair. I feel more stylish (and young) when it's nicely trimmed and styled.
If I do let it grow out a bit, I know I'll have more hair style options for her big day and I'll be able to play around with cute little flower hair pins such as these. I know it's not about me, the wedding is about her, but I am one of her bridesmaids and a girl always wants to look nice for pictures, right? Right! In the meantime, the search begins for nice hair styles and hair accessories.

Each bouquet was designed with different themes in mind, but I decided to feature them together in one blog post for two reasons (1) they're equally beautiful, and (2) they were shot by the same photographer.
The image on the left was part of an Island Inspiration photo shoot. I love this bouquet for it's uniqueness and tranquility. I have never seen anything like it, and even though I'm a girl who loves color, I don't find it missing from this beautiful arrangement.
The bouquet on the right, which was created as part of an inspiration photo shoot for a garden wedding, is more playful and vibrant in color, and I found the inclusion of radishes to be very artistic. Wedding Cake Con Papel Picado

Awesome! I get to practice my Spanglish with today's blog post. I just wanted to share this beautiful wedding cake by Melody of My Sweet and Saucy. The design was inspired by the couple's wedding invitation which featured a "Papel Picado" element. Papel Picado are little flags, like bunting, that are most popular around Cinco de Mayo. They are colorful and feature many cool designs...kind of like paper snow flakes.

Here's a close up of the cake. I love how how the magenta flower just pops against the white cake. The wedding featured a rich color palette of plums and fusia. Purple Has its Charm

Being a Latina, when I hear someone has chosen purple as their wedding color, I immediately get images in my head of all the Quinceañeras I've been to in the past (that's the Latina version of a Sweet 16, celebrated at age 15) where it seemed like the actual color purple exploded upon the world. Some were done in good taste, but others were overdone to the point where everything was purple making the event look too dark, and I'm more of a bright and cheery kind of girl.

Now thanks to the web and all those amazing blogs out there, I've been seeing more and more of what I like to call "booster shots" where I find lovely images of beautifully coordinated tablescapes and wedding decor. These shots "boost" my enthusiasm for all things purple and serve as the antidote I needed to cherish and appreciate the color's charm.

Oh, and I'm a sucker for wedding day footsie shots too!

I proceeded to suggest grass boxes instead of floral arrangements or maybe cactus in jars and nicely decorated cans. Everything displayed in a chic and eco-friendly fashion of course. My main concern is that whatever she chooses, is not too complex and remains easy to assemble the day of the wedding. She now has an idea of what she wants, but I'm not about to ruin the surprise by blogging about it. At least not now, hee, hee.
As I searched for inspiration to send her way, I came across this neat tutorial by DomestiFluff that provides step by sten instructions on how to create pom pom flowers. By glancing at the picture I would have never known those were made using ribbon! So, these may or may not be your ideal wedding DIY project, but it's definitely a neat find. Something to keep in mind another, less fancy occasion.

Back when I got married, almost 8 blissful years ago, I would have never thought about serving wedding cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. I would have worried that they would look too childish, or that I would miss out on the iconic cake-cutting picture.
Today, that's a different story. If I could rewind and go back in time #1, I would totally ditch the baker that gave me an orange wedding cake instead of the ivory cake I had requested. Seriously. I had people ask me "So what's with the orange cake?" #2, I would go for the cupcakes! They're so cute and so not childish if you ditch the colorful sprinkles.
As far as the pictures, you can always include a small cake in your display for you to cut together and get those bride and groom cake-cutting pictures that are meant to be in every wedding album. At least that's your momma thinks, right? Mine does. I think. She never says anything, so I don't really know what she thinks, but you know what I mean.
The cupcake tower shown on the left is very pretty indeed, but I'd be afraid of kids running away with the cupcakes before the reception even starts. Instead, I would probably opt for a smaller display such as the one shown on the right, and I would ask the caterer to keep the rest of them in the kitchen for distribution shortly after dinner, or I would put them in a favor box to create a tasty wedding cake/party favor to-go. Yup, that's what I would do.

Eco-Chic Jar Centerpieces

I've been collecting kitchen jars lately and finding many creative uses for them. I use them to store cotton balls, grains, craft items and to store left overs in the fridge. They're so convenient and so darn cute. I've also been gathering them to hold small floral arrangements for our next family party, but never in my mind did I envision a that grouping glass jar and tin can arrangements would this fabulous! I am so inspired by these images of Sara and Ryan's Ace Hotel Wedding, that I may just do something similar to enjoy in my own patio garden at home.

Monday Hues: Refreshing Summer Palette

A while back I had started posted a series of color inspiration posts. Then the deadlines started pouring-in and blogging was put on the back burner for a while. Today, I'd like to bring back my color inspirations posts with a title, from now on to be know as the "Monday Hues". Some people have the Monday Blues, but not here baby, we've got the Monday Hues. So, on Monday mornings when you're having a hard time adjusting to being back at the office, or you just need a little inspiration to get you motivated, come on over to my blog for a little color pick-me-up.
Today's Monday Hues were taken out of this lovely image by Etsy seller KnockKnocking. They have some amazing wreath creations over in the shop, each one with a rich color palette of it's own. I picked this design for it's cool summer colors. Just looking at it reminded me of the sweetness of citrus and a cool ocean breeze. Today's the first day of summer by the way, so the palette ties in nicely.
So, if you're planning a summer soirée, may I suggest a color palette of powder blue, sun kissed yellow, sea foam green and eggshell white.

A Toy Story Engagement

My sister celebrated her 23rd birthday Toy Story style, this weekend. She created an adorable birthday banner as part of the decor, and my cousin made these amazingly delicious alien cupcakes. Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head stood at each side of the cupcake stand to guard the cupcakes. Too bad we didn't have any water guns, I think some toy weapons would have made it more official. You know, the little green aliens have always been my favorite Toy Story characters so seeing them (and tasting them) in cupcake form was awesome! Definitely one of my favorite party elements!The night ended with an entertaining Toy Story Trivia Game, in which contestants had to yell "foof" before answering a question because there were no buzzards or whistles available. A contestant from the looser team had to take a shot of tequila (or milk, depending on their age) each time the opponent team answered a question correctly. Needless to say, the team with the kindergarten teachers and children won the trivia game. They were happy, but we (the losers) were BUZZing AND happy. Whoo-hoo! ~ The best part of all was when her boyfriend sat her down to open her gifts. As she opened a gift from him, he got down on one knee and proposed. The gift was an engraved photo frame that read "She said...YES! June 18, 2010" ~ Awww...what a great night! Congratulations Cynthia and Tim! This is just the beginning of your story. "To infinity and beyond!"

The day I discovered Casey's Cupcakes

The hubby and I took a quick trip out to Riverside yesterday for personal business. Once we were done, we stayed in town for a little window shopping and exploring. We were checking out the cute little gift shops around the Mission Inn when these pink balloons and charming patio seating caught my attention. The sign read Casey's Cupcakes & Capuccinos, and since I hadn't had my morning coffee yet, it became a "must have". ~ The shop's really cute on the inside and the cupcake attendants were very friendly. They had so many flavors to choose from, it wasn't easy to make a selection, but I decided on a Razzmatazz Raspberry cupcake - it was pure JOY! One of the best cupcakes I've EVER had! Soft and moist, not too sweet and full of flavor. The packaging and wooden cutlery added a nice touch to the presentation as well.
Looks like escaping the desert heat and taking an hour drive to the beautiful city of Riverside will be this summer's repeated "sweet" adventure.

Found a delicious recipe via Whole Living that I couldn't wait to share. The instructions read as follows:

Banana, Berry, and Buttermilk Popsicles

Puree 1 1/2 cups low-fat buttermilk, 1 banana, 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen berries, and 1/4 cup honey or agave syrup in a blender until smooth. Pour mixture into Popsicle molds and freeze. Makes 10 pops ( 75 calories each).

I Love My Suegra (Mother In Law) Collection

My new "I Love My Suegra (Mother In Law)" collection is now available through my Spanglish website Que Party Tan Fancy! My husband and I decided that he'll wear his "I love my suegra" t-shirt when we go to my mom's for mother's day this year and I'll wear mine when we go to his mom's house. I'm sure it'll bring a smile to their face and make others chuckle.
I know the mother in law is a sensitive subject for many, but I choose to look at things on the bright side. Think of it this way, if it weren't for her, your other half wouldn't be here.

Homemade Easter Egg Dye

I'm a little late with my Easter posting, but I must be grateful for the work I have, even if it has kept me from blogging. =)

This past Easter, both my sister and I waited till the last minute to plan our Easter gathering. By the time we got the store to buy some goodies, we found ourselves surrounded by empty shelves. Our only solution was to make homemade egg dye for the kids, and we couldn't have been happier with the results!

To make it, we just mixed the following ingredients in a cup:
1 cup of water
1 teaspoon of white vinegar
1 teaspoon of food coloring

First we used regular crayons to draw our designs on the eggs and then dipped them in the dye to finish the job. They turned out sooo cute! My favorite is the intergalactic egg my sister created, shown at the bottom left. I almost snagged it from her for my husband!

We then took the kids to gramma Josefina's house, hid the eggs and candy and had another evening filled with family, candy and fun. Hope you all had a wonderful Easter as well. If you experienced any egg dye disasters, keep this recipe in mind for next year. You'll love it!

After much thought and consideration, I decided to temporarily remove my custom invitations website (Dio Selina Custom Designs) from the internet this week. In the meantime, the web address www.DioSelina.com will lead you to this blog where you will be able to keep up with my latest designs, become informed on any studio updates and find inspiration for your wedding or your next special event.

I am happy to say that my line of social stationery titled Paisley In Paris is gaining more recognition each day and orders for birthday celebrations, baby showers and other events have been increasing significantly in the last few weeks. In addition to increased non-wedding related sales, I've also recently added a new line of Spanglish stationery called Que Party Tan Fancy, for my Latina followers who love my work and must have it translated to Spanish (or Spanglish).

So let's just say that Dio Selina Custom Designs is simply on an extended vacation. I'm looking to relaunch an updated website with new handcrafted wedding invitation sets by the end of this year. By doing this, I'll be able to focus on everything that I have going on at this time and continue to provide the high quality customer service that has always been associated with my name.

During the next few weeks, I am looking forward to creating more balance in my life, updating the blog several times a week, spending more quality time with my family, and revamping my line of wedding stationery for the coming season. Thank you all for your patience, your love and support!

New Logo Design: Pacific Coast Innovations

I was hired recently for by a company that creates medical equipment to design a custom logo for them. After a few logo options and a couple of small revisions, logo shown above was the winner. The icon symbolizes energy and movement, while forming the letters "C" and "P" from Pacific Coast. The logo was also created in a way so that the eye flows all throughout, from the icon, through the v, t, and n, as if electricity were traveling through. Thank you PCI! It was a pleasure working with you!

Little Blue Bird

Have I mentioned I love birds? I'm sure I have, as I'm always inclined to share my little bird internet finds. In fact, I have created several wedding invitations and greeting card designs featuring my little bird illustrations, and I'm happy to say they're some of my best sellers!

Life is Bee-utiful!

Can't believe it's been two weeks since my last post! Things just tend to get a little crazy around the holidays. For me, it was good crazy. Even though I was sick with a severe cold and lost my voice for two days, it almost went unnoticed compared to the great time I had with my family. We made lots of new memories and lots of great presents! Yes, my sisters and I decided on a "handcrafted" Christmas this year and it was great! I got some tasty treats from my younger sister, a bib necklace and beaded earrings from my little sister, and a butcher block and a cork board made out of wine corks from her boyfriend! Really, really cool, I can't wait to share the pictures of the gifts I made and the gifts I received.

In the meantime, as I slowly get out of vacation mode and into work mode and catch up on things, I'd like to wish you all the very best for the coming year. For me, this is a time of reflection, acceptance, anticipation and joy as we welcome the new year with open arms ready to receive the blessings and lessons that will come along with it.

I spent about 6 hours last weekend crafting holiday gifts for my family and friends. Amongst my creations was this beautiful & stylish hair pin. I couldn't decide which one of my sisters to give it to, and I really wanted to keep it for myself! It's so pretty. My little camera doesn't take very good pictures, but when you see it person, the beads sparkle so pretty and the fabric is so soft and silky. Anyway, I have enough fabric to make more of this design, so I thought I'd add this one to my Etsy shop for a lucky customer to enjoy. Luckily, I was able to back up all my files before taking my computer to be restored. Now it's just a matter of getting caught up and back on schedule. Oh, wait a minute...now that the calendar is posted, I guess I am all caught up! Yay!

Parisian Cupcake Topper Flags

I just added these new cupcake toppers to my Etsy shop. Actually, they're multi-purpose foodpicks. They look great on cupcakes and pastries - ideal for a Paris theme bridal shower! Or if you're having a wine tasting, these would look great on a cheese platter sitting next a bottle of French wine.
The flags are made from Cavallini paper, attached to a toothpick and accented with a small microbead at the top for a very subtle sparkle. They sell in sets in 12, but if you need other quantities just shoot me an e-mail!

Color Inspiration # 1: Eggshell, Cement, Sage and Dusty Rose

There have been times during a design consultation for custom wedding stationery, when my clients express that they haven't yet decided on a theme or color scheme for their event. A side of me is always surprised to hear this for about a second or so, but then the logical side of me completely understands that planning a wedding can be a little overwhelming. If the couple hasn't hired a wedding coordinator they may need a little guidance as far as where to begin, and I'm always happy to help.

The truth is that selecting a color scheme for your event is one of the first things you should do. Once you select your color palette, it will be much easier to decide on your bridesmaids and groomsmen attire, the cake, linens, favors, stationery, etc. It will all be much easier because you will know exactly what you're looking for, and everything will seem to come together in visual harmony.

Other couples I have worked with have been under the impression that they can only use one or two colors in their wedding decor, such as white and red or black and white. The truth is, that there is no limit to your color palette nowadays. The richer the palette, the better!

Inspiration can be found anywhere! From browsing magazines with images of other weddings, your favorite book cover, a pattern in your favorite purse, your comforter, grandmother's dress or your favorite picture!

As people prepare for the holidays, and brides begin to celebrate their fall and winter weddings, there are other brides-to-be looking to find inspiration for their spring weddings. If you're one of them, this post is for you! One of my finds this afternoon was this lovely genuine Turquouise carved birdie and adjustable chain necklace by FreshyFig. I immediately envisioned it as a lovely and apropriate accent to any outdoor spring wedding attire. Who knows, maybe this post will be the reason why your "Something blue" can now be checked off your list.
